Here are the long awaited answers to the questions nobody asked us.
If you'd like to get a sample of Fado, the typical Lisbon song, you may be interested in the free concert by Mariza on September 6, at 10pm, at the Belém Tower. Mariza is probably the internationally best known Fado singer, having received a World Music award from BBC and having performed at Live 8. We suggest you go early, stroll around the Belém area with its many monuments and museums (see the section on Lisbon), have a drink on the terrace of the Cultural Centre with its view on the river, eat in one of the various restaurants in the area, get a "pastel de nata" (commonly named "pastel de belém") from the original factory, and go to the concert. Of course, thousands of "alfacinhas" (the nickname of Lisbon inhabitants) may have a similar plan...
The logo represents a notable engineering feat: the 58km long aqueduct network built in the 18th century to bring water into Lisbon. It is not in use since the late 1960s. Its tallest section passes nearby the conference venue and includes the largest stone arch in the world (65m high by 32m wide). You can see some 360 degree pictures here.
From the airport, the simplest way is to take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to "Campus de Campolide da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (atrás da Mesquita)" and at the University gate tell the security guard that you're staying at the "residência" for the ESEC/FSE'05 conference.

We're very sorry to disappoint you, but there won't be any t-shirt, and the conference material is distributed in a "no logo" backpack. It will look pretty dull in your trophy room, but, if this may serve as a consolation, it is lightweight, it can be easily folded into your luggage, and carried around on a daily basis for your shopping, to the beach, etc.
It's a hypothetically asked question.
